Languages or Animals

Know all the world’s languages

Speak with animals

This one is really easy for me. I am pretty sure you would guess which one I would prefer too.

If you are still not sure, the correct answer is B, to have the ability to speak with animals. 🙂 My dream job is to live amongst them and be able to study them for decades. I have always wondered about the people that spend countless hours in the day waiting for that perfect wildlife photograph. I would love to have a special connection with the animals from learning their behavior, quirks and own individual personalities. It would be amazing to discover new species and document their lives.

There was a movie that my family and I enjoyed watching many years ago. It was called “Dr. Dolittle” played by Eddie Murphy. He gains the special ability to speak to animals. The movie has almost nothing in common with the book that it’s based on, “The Story of Doctor Dolittle.” Regardless of the differences, I have enjoyed both stories. There was a scene in the movie where a rat is doubled over in pain. Its companion begs Dr. Dolittle for help because the rat seems to be dying. Dr. Dolittle tries to resuscitate the rat, and then it passes wind. As lame as this sounds, I have often related to the poor rat with my stomach issues.

Anyhow, it would be nice to know what my dog and our cat is thinking. Sometimes they have these facial expressions that are hard to read. I know they are highly intelligent, and they understand a lot of what we are saying. Missy is generally silent, so we have to look at her tail in order to know how she’s feeling. I often find her sitting alone downstairs in the dark. It would be really interesting to know what she has done and seen during the night. On the other hand, Lucy is vocal and her tail is always wagging. She jumps and dances when we come home and whenever she expects a treat. But there are times that she has this look on her face that I am not sure what it is. It’s a wistful look.

Knowing all the world’s languages would be a wasted gift on me. I am afraid I wouldn’t appreciate it enough. It’s not something I am passionate about learning . I think it’s because the ones I know are still a little mixed up in my mind. I am afraid if I were to add more, I would get everything so confused and it would be a giant mess. I love animals, so it would make sense for me to be able to communicate with them.

  1. Although knowing how to speak to animals would be super awesome I think I would rather know different languages. I have always been really passionate about traveling, learning different cultures and languages, and being open to try foods from all around the world. It would be a dream to be fluent in every language! Love this post

  2. As much as I love languages, I would probably go with being able to understand the animals also. I think they’d be pretty honest and hilarious.
