Day 14

Post your favorite movies that you never get tired of watching.

Some people like to watch movies over and over again. That’s not me. Once I have watched a movie, I can possibly tolerate a second viewing but it would have to be after a long while. I think it’s because I don’t like to have the endings spoiled by anyone, so once I know what is going to happen, I am not interested in watching it anymore.

However, I have exceptions to this “rule”. One movie that I have watched a couple of times is Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio. It is hard to understand so you have to watch it more than once in order to grasp it. This movie is super complex because it deals with multiple layers of dreams and going deep into the subconscious. I think it’s fascinating because I love looking at how the mind operates. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character has a wife played by Marion Cotillard. Her delusion with reality is something that can happen to many people, although maybe in a more superficial way. Cognitive Psychology was my favorite psych class in college (just to give an idea of how much that kind of stuff interests me).

The other exception to my rule is the short show Doctor Thorne. Even though I have watched it a couple of times already, I could watch it all over again if someone asked me to accompany them. This show is a lot lighter and happier than Inception if you aren’t into action movies. I love how there is a plot twist which turns out in the favor of the protagonist. Have I mentioned before that ironies in stories are fun for me? It’s very similar to the effect of looking at the satellite maps, my brain is tickled by polar opposites and wrinkles in the development of a story. I think it’s because there is very little that comes in black and white in my mind. Everything has some gray in it, with varying degrees of ambiguity.

If you haven’t seen these two already, I recommend adding them to your watch list. I know Doctor Thorne is on Amazon Prime. It seems that Inception is only available to rent on various platforms.

What are your favorite movies?

  1. Love Inception! Such a good movie. I have never seen Doctor Thorne but I’ve been wanting to check it out 🙂 I am actually opposite of you. If I really like a movie, I can rewatch it several times and never get bored of it. Movies I love/rewatch: Harry Potter movies, Jane Austen movies, Back to the Future, Lord of the Rings movies, The Pianist, etc.

    1. I started watching The Pianist a long time ago but didn’t get the chance to finish it. I need to try again. Yes, the Jane Austen movies are really good too 🙂
